Rehabbed homes both brand new and historic

The West Granite Revitalization Initiative is currently transforming the intersection of Granite and West streets, taking four multi-family properties down to the studs and renovating them so that they are, in essence, brand new buildings.

And while these properties will include all the attractive modern amenities—things like granite countertops, hardwood floors and energy efficient appliances and other green upgradesNeighborWorks Greater Manchester has gone to great lengths to ensure that the buildings, all built more than 100 years ago, retain their historic charm and complement the historic architectural aspects of the West Granite neighborhood.

Indeed, the exteriors of the buildings have changed very little, as is evidenced by the now single-family home at 410 Granite St.:

West Granite crime report

West Granite Crime ReportIn 2008, residents of the West Granite neighborhood called the Manchester Police Department more than 1,000 times.

According a neighborhood crime report from the department, incidents reported by residents include  parking complaints (97), requests for special attention to the neighborhood (53), noise complaints (22), loud music (18), domestic violence (53), criminal mischief (22), fights (20), disorderly conduct (14), criminal threatening (17), thefts (53), accidents (27) and past assaults (25).

$2.53M in federal stimulus funds awarded to help revitalize West Granite neighborhood

Change is coming to the West Granite neighborhood.

NeighborWorks® Greater Manchester, a local neighborhood revitalization Neighborhood Stabilization Programnonprofit, recently received $2.53 million Neighborhood Stabilization Program funds to acquire and rehab foreclosed and abandoned properties ( download Union Leader article here), which will then be resold to owner occupants. In some cases, acquired properties could be demolished to create additional neighborhood parking or green space.
